Hiking
A hike along good paths that are only moderately steep. There is little or no risk of falling. Finding your way is generally quite straightforward. However, in some places, sure-footedness may be required.
Mountain Hiking
A hike along good, but in places steep, paths. There is a potential risk of falling. In a few sections, you may need to use your hands to keep your balance. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
Difficult Mountain Hiking
A mountain hike with some challenging sections, possibly including easy climbing sections up to UIAA Grade 1. There may be an increased risk of falling. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
Alpine Hiking
Alpine hike with challenging sections, possibly including longer climbing sections up to UIAA Grade 1. Parts of the route are off-trail and very exposed, hence an increased risk of falling. A good sense of direction, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
Difficult Alpine Hiking
Challenging Alpine hike featuring longer, more challenging sections and climbing sections up to UIAA grade 2. Often pathless and very exposed terrain, with a high risk of falling. A good sense of direction, mountaineering experience, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
Very Difficult Alpine Hiking
A very challenging alpine hike with long, demanding sections and climbing passages up to upper grade 2 on the UIAA scale. Much of the route is off-trail and very exposed, with a high risk of falling. An excellent sense of direction, extensive mountaineering experience, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
